Find Your Leadership Rhythm
Have you ever thought that you may have to invent your leadership style to maximise business results, or do you think that it’s a take me as I am gig?
What do I mean by “invent”?
I mean learn a style that works for you and works for the team to get the end result of a happy aligned group all moving forward in the same direction.
It is true that it’s best to lead naturally to fit in with who you are. An authentic self is important but you don’t want your style to be getting in the way of awesome results.
So there might be some learning to tweak what you already have.
Some leadership styles will lead to ultimate failure unless either you change… or put someone else in charge.
A franchisee will value a strong leader being:
The list can go on and on, but this is a great start.
No one wants a “I’m always right stressed out angry illogical untrusting pit-bull dictator.”
And I’ll add another trait that is a turn off… greedy. I have seen greedy rear it’s ugly head once the money starts flowing. I have personally witnessed a strong group fall apart because the franchisor wants more from the franchisees.
It’s important when you start to franchise, you know the role you want to take in your business. Not all Founders are the day to day business leader. Ultimately yes, the buck stops with you, but the day to day leadership is carried out by someone that loves the role and is great at it.
Hand the reins over and watch your business transform if this could be you.
Franchisees that get the vision and support they think they need, are happy franchisees.
A successful franchisor is always at least one step ahead of where the business is today.
I have a bus analogy to help show how your business should be.
Imagine your business is a bus. You, the founder’s role is to create the road for the bus to travel along. The day to day leader of your business is driving the bus, and your team and franchisees are all on the bus.
Everyone is heading in the direction you want.
Are you spending time building the road AND driving the bus, or building the road AND supporting the bus driver?
This is how it should be.
So what is your rhythm?
Where do you spend your time? What role do you want?
